The Battle of County Line
Since 2002, students in Dr. Hartnell's history classes have taken part in a growing tradition here in Westerville… the Civil War Water Balloon Battle Reenactment. After creating the idea of an American Revolution water balloon reenactment in the spring of 2002, the "Battle of County Line Road" became a Civil War affair that continues to grow every year. TV stations cover it, The Dispatch runs articles about it, local papers photograph it, The Other Paper "spoofs" it, and teachers from other districts copy it so they can set it up at their own schools! With over 3,000 water balloons, 20 slings acting as artillery, drummers and fife players, replica flags, horses, and actual cannons and rifles filling the field with noise and smoke... students get to witness first hand the insanity of linear war!
