A picture from the fabled "Donut Wars of 1979"! For over three years, the clubs and organizations at North earned money by selling doughnuts during first and second periods. In February 1979, it was discovered that North's cafeteria had been instructed to compete with the clubs by selling doughnuts for 5 cents less. The Student Council went into action and organized a boycott of the cafeteria. The boycott WORKED and, after two days, the cafeteria stopped selling doughnuts... and all was well at North. (Circa 1984) The Senior Picnic culminated a strenuous year for the WNHS Class of 1984. held at Blendon Woods on June 1st, the day began with soccer, football, and frisbee... before descending into madness and a shaving cream fight. Luckily, the ensuing water balloon fight helped clean things up! In the picture above, Lee Baughman and Hans Andersson show no ill-effects from "battle". [Click picture for a larger version.]
On Friday, October 1, 1976, the WNHS Class of 1977 sponsored a school-wide retreat to Sharon Woods. Both students and staff participated in thss day of relaxation and activity planning for the year. (Circa 2012) The "Warrior Rowdies" have been rated the #1 student section in Central Ohio on numerous occasions, most recently picking up the distinction in January 2016. Their weekly themes and willingness to take their fandom to away games makes them a sight to see! [Click picture for a larger version.]
During the 1988 New York trip for the WNHS Drama Department, Senior (and future WNHS Hall of Famer) Christine Chen gets ready to pour water over the head of a friend from Westerville South. And how about that? This "friend" from South is future WNHS Math teacher Mr. Eric Nelson! [Click picture for a larger version.]
WNHS Class of 2003 graduate, Jake Spann, died in 2006 during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Spann, a Humvee machine-gunner, was helping in a transport mission in the Iraqi city of Hit when an IED detonated under his vehicle. His service - and ultimately his passing - is the reason why we can enjoy the freedoms and our daily rituals at North. [Click picture for a larger version.]
