Students enrolled in Contemporary World Issues will be expected to become "experts" in a particular world issue of their choosing. These topics must fall in one of the six major "themes" for the course: Human Rights, Technology, Economics, Politics, Conflict, and Environment. Students will house this newfound expertise in a website that can provide the viewing public with everything needed to know about the topic's history (timeline), current events, pros/cons, opinions, etc. Students may use any website platform creator, including Weebly, Wix, and Google.
While students are accustomed to receiving a rubric that explains how many pages, pictures, articles, etc. are expected for an "A", a "B", and so forth, no such "guideline" will be provided for this project. These websites are expected to be more than "one-and-done" like so many websites they complete for other classes that wind up lost to Internet oblivion once the semester ends. It is Dr. Hartnell's hope that students continue to update these sites or pass them along to future students to continue in their stead. (If Dr. Hartnell told students to use eight pictures, many students would place exactly eight pictures in order to check off that box on the rubric.)
These sites are to look professional and be functional. Since students are not equally savvy when it comes to website design, Dr. Hartnell will provide guidance in class. Students are expected to use the various tutorials provided for their sites (links shown below). Additional information concerning these sites, Internet security, and the legality of such sites will be discussed in great detail in class.
As a large portion of class time will be dedicated to creating these websites, the grade students earn on this World Issues Pro (WIP) project will serve as their course grade. Remember! Garbage in = Garbage out.
